I live in France. During 1999 I discovered the Jet Prop on internet and went to the States to see one for myself. I was convinced, and returned to France to figure out how to buy a Malibu for conversion to a Jet Prop. In the States, I had met Calvin Miller, one of the first Jet Prop customers. I called him to ask for help, and he suggested that I call Richard Bynum – so I did.

Richard sent various specifications of possible Malibus for conversion, and finally one came through for N595PM with a very positive endorsement. I decided to go to the States to see it, and had a cheque prepared to buy the plane on the spot if I felt that it was as good as Richard was telling me. There I was, ready to leave, and I couldn’t board the plane because my passport was out of date!! I called Richard to explain, convinced that I’d lost the plane, because the owner wanted to move it fast. Richard just said – don't worry, I'll buy it, sort out the passport problem, and then come and buy it from me if you feel it is the right plane – which he did – and the closest we had ever been in our relationship was a couple of phone calls.

I finally sorted my problems, and went to St. Antonio. I liked the plane and decided to buy it. The next problem was that with my French pilots licence, I couldn't get insurance to fly the plane to Spokane.

Again, no problem, Richard said that he would fly the plane to Spokane with me, and he would sell it to me at Spokane. All he wanted was for me to pay his air fare home. Ok, so we set off. After the first leg of the flight, we tried to take off from Farmington, but we had motor problems. We stayed 3 days trying to cajole some mechanics to work a little faster than “dead slow. When everything was ready, and I went to pay the bill, Richard tried to stop me saying that I hadn’t yet bought the plane, it was still his, and therefore he should pay the bill. He allowed me to pay, but later refused payment for the flight home.

So, if you are looking for someone to help you buy the right Malibu – look no further – you can have full confidence in Richard!!!
